Robbery Update - Arrests Made

As a result of an extensive investigation into the robbery that occurred at the Bates Residence Hall, three suspects were identified and probable cause established for their arrest.

One juvenile male was arrested by UHDPS on December 22nd, 2008.Two adult males were arrested bu UHDPS on January 7th, 2009.

 

 

 

Suspect 1: Black male, age unknown, short with light skin and a goatee wearing a blue jeans, a hoodie, and a red ball cap

Suspect 2: Black male, age unknown, tall with dark skin, clean shaven, wearing blue jeans, a hoodie, and a black ball cap

Weapon: None

Vehicle: Black late model Chevrolet truck, extended cab

Synopsis: On Sunday, 12/14/08 at approximately 3:30AM police dispatch received a call from a student stating that he had been robbed. The complainant reported that while walking towards Bates Residence Hall, he noticed the two suspects following him. The complainant reported that he took out his wallet to obtain his ID for entry into the building, and upon entering, the suspects followed him in. The complainant stated suspect 1 slapped his wallet and cell phone out of his hand, picked up both off the floor, and both suspects jogged out and away from the building towards Wheeler Avenue and jumped into the bed of a black truck which then drove away east on Wheeler.

UHDPS is actively pursuing leads based on witness information and images captured by the campus camera system. If you saw or have any information regarding this incident please call UHDPS at 713-743-3333.

 

SAFETY TIPS:

  • BE ALERT!!
  • Do not hold open doors to secure areas for other people.
  • Be cautious when approached by an unknown person on the street, even the nicest person can have ill intent.
  • Remain as calm as possible.Your own initiative and clear thinking are your best defenses.
  • The University has more than 70 Emergency call boxes placed strategically around campus, use them! The call goes directly to the UHDPS Dispatch Center.
  • Report the incident. Call the police immediately and report what has happened. Call (713) 743-3333 or 911.
  • Do not walk alone, if at all possible walk in groups.
  • Try to notice details. This can allow you to provide the police with detailed physical and clothing descriptions of the person(s) involved.
  • If a vehicle is involved, try to note the vehicle's license plate number or the vehicle's manufacturer, model and color or any other identifying features.
