A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT KHATOR: Campus
Dear Parents and Cougars:
Houston has just weathered one of the worst storms in our recent history. Considering the size and intensity of the storm, we should consider ourselves very fortunate. I toured the central campus on Saturday and met with students in our residence halls. I realize that many of us are still challenged with personal situations, particularly without electricity.
We are also coordinating with the Mayor and County Judge to monitor city-wide factors that guarantee our students' safety. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Classes are cancelled for Monday and will resume on Tuesday. Professors understand that students will continue to have individual situations and challenges throughout the week, and they are prepared to handle them as needed. The Provost has asked the faculty to keep this week as a no exam/no project week. While we will be sensitive to individual needs, it is important that as an organization, we return to normalcy and start to rebuild our community.
I am proud to say that Houston, being a city of successful and resilient people, is starting to get back on its feet. As of this morning, all city and county employees are already at work, freeways are clear, and Metro is running. It will take some time, but the City will be back to its usual vibrancy soon.
Regards, Renu
