Robbery - ARREST MADE INVESTIGATION ONGOING
Outside the Southeast Corner of the Power Plant

SUSPECT #1: Black male, black dark shirt, black pants, dark shoes, possibly a juvenile.

SUSPECT #2: Hispanic or white male, black shirt, white shorts, dark tennis shoes, possibly a juvenile.

SUSPECT #3: Black male, red shirt, dark shorts, dark shoes, possibly a juvenile, riding a BMX style bike. 

SUSPECT #4: Black male, white T-shirt, dark shorts with white stripe at bottom, dark shoes, may have had a backpack, possibly a juvenile. 

WEAPON: None used.

VEHICLE:  No motor vehicle involved.

SYNOPSIS: On Saturday, 08/16/08 at 7:19PM the police dispatcher received a phone call from a male stating that his friend had been robbed. The complainant advised he was walking on the sidewalk on the southeast side of the Power Plant next to M. D. Anderson Library. The four suspects walked up behind him and said "show him something" and then struck the complainant in the face. The suspects took the complainant's wallet and left the area on foot heading west toward the Technology One Building.  The complainant was unable to provide a detailed description of the suspects; the descriptions were based primarily on brief long-distance UHDPS camera shots.

SAFETY TIPS:  Confrontations can occur without provocation, through no fault of your own.  When such confrontations do occur, there are some actions you can take:

 

  • BE ALERT!!
  • Be cautious when approached by an unknown person on the street, even the nicest person can have ill intent.
  • Remain as calm as possible. Your own initiative and clear thinking are your best defenses.
  • The University has over 70 Emergency call boxes placed strategically around campus, use them! The call goes directly to the UHDPS Dispatch Center.
  • Report the incident. Call the police immediately and report what has happened.  Call (713) 743-3333 or 911.
  • Do not walk alone, if at all possible walk in groups.
  • Try to notice details. This can allow you to provide the police with detailed physical and clothing descriptions of the person(s) involved.
  • If a vehicle is involved, try to note the vehicle's license plate number or the vehicle's manufacturer, model and color or any other identifying features.

 

Seek support after an incident. Victims can benefit from University support services after the incident.  Faculty, Staff and Students can call Counseling and Psychological Services @ (713) 743-5454 for assistance.
